If you run separate winter or summer wheels, we'll swap, balance and refit them at your home or workplace so you're ready for the conditions ahead. We can also advise on all-season tyres if you'd rather not switch twice a year.
When to switch to winter tyres
Winter tyres are made from a compound that stays soft in the cold, and they out-grip summer tyres once temperatures are regularly below about 7°C. In this part of the country that usually means fitting them in late autumn and going back to summer tyres in spring. Booking before the first cold snap avoids the rush.
How a seasonal changeover works
If your off-season tyres are already on their own set of wheels, we swap the wheels over, check the balance and torque them to the correct setting. If you have loose tyres and one set of wheels, we remove the current tyres from the rims and fit and balance the others. Either way it's done on your driveway — just have the off-season set somewhere we can get to them.
Looking after the set you take off
Tyres last longer stored clean, dry and out of direct sunlight. Tyres on wheels are best stacked flat or hung; loose tyres should be stood upright and turned occasionally. It's worth marking which corner of the car each one came from so they can be rotated sensibly next season.

No, but it helps. With a second set of wheels the changeover is a straight swap. With one set, the tyres have to come off the rims and be refitted each season, which takes longer.
It isn't recommended. Mixing winter and summer tyres gives the two ends of the car very different levels of grip, which can make it unpredictable in a bend or under braking. Fit all four.
